The Older Immigrant Population of the United States

Older population represents the fastest growing segment of the U.S. A neglected component of the older population is the foreign-born elderly. About 11 percent of the American elderly in 2000 are foreign-born, which is a 2.3 percentage point increase from 1990. The Current Population Survey data combined with Census 1990 data provide us an opportunity to examine in detail changes in the geographic distribution of foreign-born elderly, their origin, their living arrangements, and other indicators of their social integration. The main focus of the poster is to analyze the living arrangements and composition of immigrant families as well as their communities, which contribute to the mental and physical well-being of immigrant seniors.
